Annadan Seva on Masa Shivaratri at Tiruvannamalai (Arunachala Girivalam Path)

In the holy Kshetra of Tiruvannamalai, where Lord Shiva stands as Arunachaleshwara, the Infinite Light of Jnana (wisdom), each Masa Shivaratri becomes a night of deep silence, devotion, and tapas to many Sadhus and Bhaktas.

Thousands of Shiva Bhaktas and Sadhus come from across Bharat to perform Girivalam (circumambulation) around the sacred Arunachala Hill, chanting Shiva’s name, meditating, and observing Upavasa, complete fasting through the night. Their austerity is an offering to Mahadeva Himself.

And when dawn breaks after their night-long penance, offering Phalahara fruits, milk, and light tiffin to break their fast is an act of Maha Punya, the highest merit.

Why This Seva is Spiritually Powerful

In the scriptures, it is said:

"Upavāsinam annadānam Shivapūjāphalam labhet"

(Feeding a fasting devotee is equal to performing a puja to Lord Shiva.)

Offering food to a hungry person is always noble, but offering food to a Sadhu or Bhakta who has fasted in Shiva’s name on the night of Shivaratri is equivalent to offering Naivedyam to Shiva Himself.

By giving even a simple banana, glass of milk, or a few pieces of tiffin to these Upavasis, you receive the combined punya of:

  • Annadanam – The greatest Danam
  • Shiva Puja – Worship of Mahadeva through service
  • Sadhu Seva – Direct service to the holy renunciates
  • Girivalam Support – Enabling a sacred Parikrama with dignity
  • Fasting Udyapanam – Helping others conclude their Tapasya

This is not just charity, it is Tapasya Sahayoga, sharing in the merit of their fasting and worship.

The Seva Plan

Satguru Charitable Trust is committed to offering this sacred service every Masa Shivaratri:

  • Phalahara Seva at dawn: Seasonal fruits, milk, and light tiffin
  • Annadan Seva later in the morning: Nutritious hot Sattvic meals
  • Served directly on the Girivalam path, where the devotees rest after their night-long Yatra

Every meal is infused with Bhakti and Sankalpa, treating each Bhakta as an aspect of Shiva.

Support This Sacred Monthly Offering

You are invited to participate in this Mahayajna by contributing donations to this monthly Seva.

  • Feed a Sadhu after his fast
  • Support a pilgrim on their Girivalam
  • Earn lasting punya for your family’s well-being
  • Remove obstacles and gain Shiva’s Anugraha

Even a small donation can feed a fasting Bhakta. Your contribution is not just food, it is spiritual currency, offering peace, prosperity, and Shiva Kripa in return.

“Annadanam Maha Danam”

Feeding one who fasts in Shiva’s name is like offering to Shiva directly.
